WYOB: Rush

'Write Your Own Brief' project for college-- we basically get to do whatever the hell we want!
I'm going to create a series of 8 canvas paintings of band caricatures (..and recreate album covers in my own style? Debating this...), the picture included is just a digital mock-up to see what it should look like. It's going to be a lot of work so hopefully it turns out good in the end!

ABNS poster main illustration

Imaginative Conceptual Illustration project based on Johnny Cash lyrics;

And I said, "My name is Sue!
How do you do!
Now you're gonna die!"
Well, I hit him right between the eyes [...]

A Boy Named Sue tells the story of a boy who was named Sue by his father, who left while Sue was still a toddler. Sue grew up miserable and angry at his father because his name meant he was the butt of jokes and was bullied occasionally. Many years later, when Sue was a grown adult, he happened to come across his father in a bar. They eventually end up fighting and before Sue has a chance to kill his father, he is told the reason he was named Sue was so he would grow up tough and thick-skinned.

Abe's Oddysee - Scrab Cakes recreation

A poster from Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, one of my favourite games from childhood!

I've always wanted one of these posters for personal amusement, and the only way to get one was to redraw it from a small reference picture found on Google Images (as far as I'm aware Oddworld nor any online game shops distribute them).

I started by drawing the black lines by hand, scanned it into Adobe Illustrator and the rest is coloured via openCanvas.

What's next? Paramite Pies? Meech Munchies? ...Mudokon Pops? :P

For any Abe's Oddysee fans: Feel free to download and print off a copy!

"Never Born, Never Died, Just Visiting"

Imaginative & Conceptual Illustration assignment based on the Happy Journey project-- choose an epitaph, base your coffin on it, and voila! I chose a famous Osho quote (post title) which, to me, reeked of outer-space and the Hindu religion.

90% complete!

To give the coffin a bit of 'oomph', I made most of it pop-out by placing squares of card of different thickness under the mandala and alien. And as a nice little break from doing everything on openCanvas, I coloured everything with Promarkers (courtesy of Ben! Thanks!)

A little inspiration also came in the form of this song by Cynic-- transition of an 'alien/spirit' from earth to outer space. I feel it fit the project perfectly--
"Box up my bones, I'm coming home" !
